Nikon Coolpix S1100PJ : what's new

A camera with an embedded projector, Nikon has dared last year with the Coolpix S1000PJ, like Projector. Today, Nikon comes back with a revised version, with more interesting specs, an improved versatility of its built-in picoprojector and a lower price tag ! Here are a few things the new S1100PJ brings to the original concept :
- The power of the projector will be 40% higher allowing the same max image size of 1.5m but with a much better contrast ratio and viewing comfort under special lighting conditions.
- The S1100PJ gets the new EXPEED C2 processor for better noise reduction, higher image quality and faster operation.
- The stabilization system is hybrid : both optical and digital system are combined to offer up to 4EV according to Nikon.
- The Coolpix S1100PJ gets a better screen (3" / 460 pixels vs 2.7"/230 000 pixels previously)
- HD video recording is now part of the Coolpix S1100PJ (720p @ 30fps)
- Its rear screen offers touch-screen operations
- It gets more fun functions with multimedia slide shows, some editing tools....
- Its design is undoubtedly nicer than its predecessor's....
- Nikon delivers an IR remote control (to control both slide shows with the projector but also to remotely and wirelessly shoot with the camera.
- lThe projector may be used as an independent projector : you can connect it to any Mac or PC computer and its firmware now supports other brands JPEGs as well as PowerPoint JPEGs.
- Its resolutions reaches 14 megapixels (vs 12 megapixels on the S1000PJ)

If the Coolpix S1100PJ is gently boosted by a 14 megapixels resolution sensor, it receives the same 5x optical zoom lens as its predecessor which is an equivalent to a 28-140mm with both optical and digital image stabilization. Its rear screen is wider (3") and better defined (460 000 pixels) but also gets a tactile layer to offer touch-screen operations, which comes in handy when doing a presentation or displaying a slide show on the projector.
