After an iPod touch exploded in England and the accidents that happened on the iPhones of Romain in Aix-en-Provence and of Edouard in Marseille, the European Commission decides to step in.

Indeed with Apple handsets exploding, presumably due to the lithium-ion batteries overheating, Ton Van Lierop, spokesperson for the services of Industry and Companies, had told the French press agency AFP: "We have invited Apple to give us information on the accident in France, but for now we have had no answer ".

Is Apple trying to gain time?

The Cupertino company finally broke the silence and announced that the handsets concerned were in the process of being collected in order to perform tests before making a decision. For now, Apple’s position is clear though: the accidents that were reported are isolated cases and they do not imply that there is a more general defect.

Even though the case has grown to an excessive size despite the small amount of concrete information available, which is emphasized by a ‘summer emptiness’ which greatly helps this kind of scandal, it is true that Apple’s behavior in this respect remains unacceptable.
