Polyphony Digital today revealed the lifetime sales of Sony's precious racing simulator series Gran Turismo, which has sold more than 55 millions of copies worldwide as of december 2009. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, released on Playstation 2, reaches the first place with a little less than 15 millions of units, while Gran Turismo 4 didn't manage to exceed 11 millions. The newest episode of the franchise, Gran Turismo PSP have now hit 1.8 millions since its release last october, and was offered to the first PSP Go buyers. Even the Prologue episodes, which only give a little taste of the final product, have managed to reach at least 1 million, and even more than 4.5 millions of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, showing the fans' strong interest for the series since its first appearance on Sony's PSOne some years ago.
The highly anticipated (and recently reported) Gran Turismo 5 will be the first real proper next gen release for the franchise, and should be out later this year.
