Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom updates

The new updates of Camera Raw 5.6 and Lightroom 2.6 will now allow users to edit RAW files coming from the latest DSLR like the Canon EOS 7D and the Nikon D3s. The DNG conversion engine is also updated to promote this digital negative format that Adobe would love to se adopted as the universal RAW format like Leica did on the Full Frame rangefinder M9 which will directly record its RAW files in DNG format.
Here is the list of the new camera supported by these updates :
  • Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
  • Canon EOS 7D
  • Canon PowerShot G11
  • Canon PowerShot S90
  • Leaf Aptus II 5
  • Mamiya DM22, DM28, DM33, DM56, M18, M22, M31
  • Nikon D3s
  • Olympus E-P2
  • Pentax K-x
  • Panasonic FZ38
  • Sigma DP1s
  • Sony A500
  • Sony A550
  • Sony A850

The Canon EOS 7D is now supported by Lightroom 2.6 and Camera Raw 5.6

Next step : Lightroom 3

Lightroom 2.6 should shortly give birth to Lightroom 3 within a few weeks or months from now, early 2010. Adobe released the Beta version of Lightroom 3 a couple of months ago showing some new functions, a redesigned user interface here and there, a new noise reduction engine and new things which are more underneath to ensure a better stability of the software and a catalog management more optimal.

The Mac user photographer have their own photography tool developed by Apple : Aperture. But they are facing a hige issue : the next version, Aperture 3, which has been anxiously expected for almost one year now to keep up with Lightroom new tools offering non destructive local editing brush or gradient tools, is not showing. Apple, which, as always, remains silent. This silent is leading to a situation where a lot of Aperture users fear Apple is going to give up the photography professional application filed which is quire unlikely though. We know that Aperture 3 is near from being launched and that it will bring hidden new stuff like Snow Leopard vs Leopard. Yet, it is now urgent that Aperture 3 shows up and comes with a couple of breath taking new features.

But yesterday, Apple released the Raw compatibility update which contained oddly very few cameras and when the Canon EOS 7D or G11 are now supported by Apple iPhoto and Aperture, the Olympus E-620 and Pen E-P1, Pentax K-x and K-7 as well as the Panasonic GF1 users are all left behind...
