New, the import window will now be integrated in the library module which is a very logical move from Adobe. The editor also advertises that the import process will be more user-friendly. The catalog management is also said to be more efficient and to allow a faster navigation through the entire photo library.

Development module

A newly designed RAW processing engine appears on Lightroom 3 and we'll carefully check the asset of this new engine regarding the image quality of the RAW processed images. This module has a full lot of new tools :
- faster processing
- new accentuation algorithm
- new noise reduction system expected to give better result while preserving details areas and edges contrast.
- new grain tool which applies an analog film simulation on your images
- 2 new vignette tools
- accentuation managed during the export process

Slideshow module
|

In Lightroom 3, users will have more slideshow advanced options available and let's point out the possibility to export slideshows in video files, ready to be shared on youtube and its competitors, or to be optimized to be viewed on a portable device like a smartphone or an ipod.

Availability of Lightroom 3
|
|
Lightroom 3 is almost ready and its final beta can be downloaded for free from the Adobe Labs website to allow an other round of user proof testing. The next step will be the final commercial version of Lightroom 3 but so far, we have no reliable information regarding when it will come to the market and at what price and update conditions.
