No compromise on image quality
Leica has to keep up with its own standard : offering among the best image quality a 35mm camera can offer. Therefore, the M9 will feature :
- A large sensor : Full frame sensor 24x36mm
- A medium resolution of 18 megapixel (good ratio between resolution / sensitivity)
- no moiré filter (nothing but the Infrared filter) between the light and the sensor
- 16-bits encoding for very fine nuances
- DNG format : Adobe universal RAW and digital negative

What a Leica-M is all about ?
It is about image quality. It should be quiet and very discret. Leica has implemented a new shutter in the M9 which is expected to remind us of the old analog M6 or M7. A Leica M is about ergonomics. The M9 remains a real M camera : manual controls are easy thanks to its design.

Leica M9 price and software
Leica offers a full copy of Adobe Lightroom with its M9. This software offer is among the best software offer on the market. Leica is not the cheapest brand. The Leica M9 will be sold EUR 5500 / GBP 485 in Europe. We can expect the US price to rank in between USD5500-6000. That is not cheap either but considering the DSLR full frame offer and the built quality, we can say that the price is pretty fair. Leica knows that they should sell rather fairly priced cameras in order to make money with expensive prime lenses.
