Apple: No to the netbook, Yes to the Tablet Mac

Though we had already wondered about the possible release of an Apple netbook, Tim Cook, who was then heading the company, had indicated that he was not interested in such a product.
It is easy to understand that the Cupertino company would not be thrilled to launch a low-price netbook, however selling an upscale Tablet Mac could be more appealing. That is why the Chinese daily newspaper China Times announces having received some new information from Taiwanese IT components manufacturers, some of which have already worked with Apple.

According to the Financial Times, Apple is said to be currently negotiating with EMI, SonyMusic, Warner Music and Universal Music Group to develop a project called "Cocktail". It aims at offering unprecedented offers on iTunes such as selling albums coupled with video clips. Similarly, the advanced capacities in terms of video that should be available on the Tablet Mac make it a favorite to develop services through partnerships with movie studios.

Amazon’s Kindle in the line of fire of the Tablet Mac

Besides, the release of the Tablet Mac is likely to annoy Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, which has just met some problems with its Kindle DX. Indeed, copyright problems have forced Amazon to erase some books that their clients had downloaded. Apple with its Tablet Mac therefore places itself in good position to shake up the e-books market.

Tablet Mac: Should we expect a subsidy from operators ?

Today, Scott Moritz from the magazine The Street sets the cat among the pigeons when announcing that Apple’s tactile tablet could be partly subsidized by phone operators and in particular by Verizon for the USA. The journalist specifies that the Tablet Mac should be a peripheral device fully oriented towards web data and not voice. Consequently, the price of subscriptions would be way lower than that of iPhone plans.
It now remains to be seen whether consumers are likely to subscribe to a new plan and involve themselves for a long time, to the detriment of some sort of freedom?
