The Samsung PL70 is a 12-megapixel compact gifted with a 5x stabilized zoom, which contrary to its younger brother the PL55 starts with a 28mm wide angle to give a 28-140mm. It offers a 3" screen of 230 000 pixels and video in HD 720p quality.

- the automatic recognition of scene modes which automatically selects one of the 11 scene modes (Portrait, Child, Sunset, Backlighting, Night...)
- the Intelligent Photo Album function automatically organizes your pics and allows searching based on date, file type (photo, video, sound...), scene mode (portrait, landscape etc...) or even based on the main color on the picture.
- Face recognition which allows memorizing up to 20 faces for automatic setting of focusing and of exposure. With the PL70, the intelligent photo album also includes a search function based on people to find their faces.
- the SAMSUNG system for successful Portraits includes:
- Face/smile/blink detection
- Beauty mode which applies a double effect to portraits: it smoothes imperfections and adjusts brilliance for a nicer complexion. The effects of this mode can be set on a a scale of 3 values.

High definition 720p video
|
|
The PL70 allows recording HD videos but in 720p (1280 x 720 of resolution) at the rhythm of 30fps and uses the codec H.264 among the most efficient ones to record videos in a smaller space. The 5x optical zoom remains available in video mode.

Samsung PL70: price and availability
|
|
The Samsung PL70 will be sold 199 euros VAT incl. and should be in stores in August 2009. If you buy it in pink, Samsung will pay back 5 euros to the association "Breast Cancer, let’s talk about it". Of note, it younger brother the PL55, a bit dull in comparison, is sold 60 euros less, but offers technical specs that are really less interesting.
