The iPhone OS 3.0 unveiled at the WWDC

We were all expecting it, now it’s done: the iPhone OS 3.0 has been officially announced and will be available from June 17.

At last, cutting / copying / pasting!

After selling its smartphone for 2 years, Apple eventually decided to give it a cut/copy/paste function. As a matter of fact, the function is very intuitive and rather advanced as it lets you, with just a touch, select entire paragraphs from web pages or copy-paste images.

MMS, Spotlight search and Recorder

Here again, this had been expected for a while. MMS eventually arrive on the iPhone, as well as an overall Spotlight search which allows searching through contacts as well as e-mails, Notes, Calendars and iPod. Finally, a Recorder function lets you record audio sequences thanks to the built-in microphone.

Become a novice trader with the new Stocks application

The Stocks app, provided in standard with the iPhone, also evolves. Displays are now more advanced and graphics can be displayed in Landscape mode. Of note, the Landscape mode is generalized to numerous applications, which e.g. allows typing more easily in apps such as Mail, Notes, Messages and Safari.

Buy TV series directly from your iPhone

As we announced it a few days before the WWDC opening, it will now be possible to download TV series, video clips and audio books from iTunes Store directly from the iPhone.

The iPhone in modem mode

Now you don’t need the iPhone’s jailbreaker anymore to enjoy the Modem mode. It will be possible to share the 3G connection of your iPhone with a computer. For now, we have few details and we hope our providers won’t have us pay a fortune for this service.

Stereo Bluetooth and Peer2peer

The iPhone’s Bluetooth connection can now communicate with stereo headphones and other Bluetooth accessories. Besides, we appreciate the new Peer2peer function which allows connecting several users via Bluetooth. Ideal to face friends in multi-player games.

Safari Mobile close to its counterpart for computer

The iPhone browser Safari will support broadcasting live audio and video files in HTTP. AS its desk counterpart, Safari will now be able to automatically fill in text fields (URL, eMail ...).

MobileMe: Finding my iPhone and remote erasing

The MobileMe services now include a "Find My iPhone" function. If your iPhone is lost or stolen, a simple passage on the website Me.com allows locating where the cellphone is and asking for all the data to be erased.

iPhone OS 3.0: price and availability

The firmware 3.0 for iPhone will be available for free from June 17 for all iPhone owners. If you have an iPod touch, it will cost you $9.95 to update it.
