We were all expecting it, now it’s done: the iPhone OS 3.0 has been officially announced and will be available from June 17.

After selling its smartphone for 2 years, Apple eventually decided to give it a cut/copy/paste function. As a matter of fact, the function is very intuitive and rather advanced as it lets you, with just a touch, select entire paragraphs from web pages or copy-paste images.

MMS, Spotlight search and Recorder

Here again, this had been expected for a while. MMS eventually arrive on the iPhone, as well as an overall Spotlight search which allows searching through contacts as well as e-mails, Notes, Calendars and iPod. Safari Mobile close to its counterpart for computer

|
The iPhone browser Safari will support broadcasting live audio and video files in HTTP. AS its desk counterpart, Safari will now be able to automatically fill in text fields (URL, eMail ...).

MobileMe: Finding my iPhone and remote erasing
|
|
The MobileMe services now include a "Find My iPhone" function. If your iPhone is lost or stolen, a simple passage on the website Me.com allows locating where the cellphone is and asking for all the data to be erased.

iPhone OS 3.0: price and availability
|
|
The firmware 3.0 for iPhone will be available for free from June 17 for all iPhone owners. If you have an iPod touch, it will cost you $9.95 to update it.
