Though surprising, the information seems to be coming straight from an Apple employee. The latter claims that the Cupertino company would be about to announce taking over Twitter, the social and micro-blogging network of the moment. Even better, this announcement should be made at the WWDC 2009, on June 8. Who said the program of this WWDC wasn’t chockablock already ?
Beyond a mere financial investment, we imagine that buying over Twitter could be the opportunity for Apple to be even more visible on the Web. However, Twitter had already told Google at the end of last year that it wasn’t for sale (or that the 500 million dollars offered weren’t enough). Moreover, except buying NeXT in 1996 (427 million dollars), Apple isn’t used to spending money for expensive buyouts. The company usually favors in-house development.
The information about Twitter being bought by Apple is therefore to be taken carefully. But after all, Apple’s magic is also made of surprises…
