How can I know if this applies to my Powershot G10?
You can check if your camera is impacted by this issue of vertical lines thanks to its serial number. You must check the serial number under the camera sole and make sure that the 4 th and 5th figures are not:
***50*****, ***51*****, ***52*****, ***53*****,
***80*****, ***81*****, ***82*****, ***83*****

If your serial number is among the above, you must then look inside the shutter which closes the battery space. If the end next to the hinge and located on the lens side is stamped as shown below, it means that the issue has already been solved, so you don’t have to send your G10 to Canon’s after-sales service. Otherwise, your camera may have this problem – problem which anyway appears very seldom – offers to fix it for free.

What is the problem?
Vertical lines appear, with different sizes depending on the subjects, which cannot properly be removed in post-production, which don’t appear on every photo, and which may appear regardless of your settings.
You will find here the list of the technical centers approved by Canon to solve the issue.
