Canon EOS 5D MKII Vs Nikon D700: the TIPA jury made a choice
|
|
Disappointment must be huge at Nikon, who certainly thought that the TIPA award of the best amateur SLR would be given to the D700, which combines the ultra-efficient body of the D300 with the as-efficient and ultra-sensitive sensor of the pro SLR, the D3.
The arguments of the D700 (extremely robust finish of the body, autofocus much more efficient than on its Canon competitor, built-in flash and Nikon flash system without wire.... did not cut it compared to the brilliant 21-Mpix sensor of the 5D MKII (Vs only 12 on the D700), extremely clean, and the 1080p video mode with autofocus which offers so many new possibilities to Canon users. But, if the Canon EOS 5D MKII doesn’t offer a 100% SLR viewfinder, the poor coverage of the Nikon D700 viewfinder (93 to 94%) certainly greatly contribute to make it miss the TIPA 2009 award.

Best expert digital SLR in 2009

Gifted with a frame sensor of 21,1 million pixels, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is the first EOS to offer Full HD video functions which allow recording in 1080p. The TIPA jury defined the 5D MKII as follows: "Fast, reliable and discreet, this "expert" D-SLR challenges in quality the best pro models". Indeed, as they faced the absence of evolution of the pro range of the Canon EOS 1Ds and EOS 1D, numerous professional users finally turned to the 5D MKII, sold half the price of the 1Ds MKIII for an image quality that is at least equivalent.
The Canon EOS 5D MKII wins the TIPA award of the best DSLR expert 2009. Surely, the combination of various laudatory reviews of the Canon 5D MKII, did not leave much room to suspense.
