The EOS Digital Rebel 300D allows Canon to take the lead
In those days Canon was the "trend setter" in the photography industry, and hit it big when releasing its SLR 300D, which gave birth to a desperate race among all camera manufacturers: the SLR market. As a reminder, the 300D was the 1st SLR to be sold below the symbolic 1000 euro-mark and, only a few months before it appeared, few amateurs could imagine buying an SLR one day. The situation has greatly changed a few years later: Olympus announced the new positioning of its compact SLR E-420 at 299 euros VAT incl - alone!

Then there were more releases with the Rebel XTi in 2006, the Rebel XSi in 2008: guaranteed success-story for each new generation.
