dpreview gallery
The pics presented in dpreview’s gallery of the Canon EOS 500D are in full resolution. Images in RAW that have been converted via the software Canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) are marked "DPP" in the "note" field. Other pics, taken in high lights priority (the function which safeguards high lights) are marked "HTP". To judge the quality of an SLR, the camera-lens couple must be taken into account. In this gallery, dpreview testers used a Canon EF-S 18-55 IS and a EF-S 18-200mm IS lenses. Go to dpreview Canon EOS 500D gallery.

Getting to know the EOS 500D / Digital Rebel T1i
With these 19 images, everyone will be able to make his/her own opinion about the EOS 500D efficiency, by downloading the original files of each pic. So, what is the 15-Mpix sensor worth when mounted on the 500D at 12800 ISO (day- and night-time)? Is the function to protect high lights efficient?
Well, if you want to judge the 500D on the actual evidence, it’s time to go for it, before we get all the measures of the various tests that will come up here and there. But careful, as regards the pics taken with the 500D displayed by dpreview (for private use only), it would be best to print them in 30x40 or 40x60 cm. Indeed, at 100% on screen, you may see some grain that seems disturbing than it really is. Gifted with 15 Mpix, the 500D somehow "weakens" grain and paper printouts, from these high resolutions, are cleaner than you may think when looking at the pics when displayed in 100% in e.g. Photoshop.

And video ?
To evaluate the video quality of the 500D (Digital Rebel T1i ) however, there’s no point trying to judge it via the poor videos that can be found on YouTube and co., as it is useless trying to render the quality of Full HD 1080p video, such as that of the EOS 500D, via a website where the video is compressed and rendered in low def and poor quality due to bandwidth.
