Although the outside doesn’t change much, the hidden side of the new iMac’s evolves a lot in every way. As for processors, the entry-level model has a frequency that moved from 2.4 to 2.66 GHz, while the hard drive gained 70 GB, to 350 GB. Similarly, the upscale model doubles its capacity to offer 1 TB, Vs 500 GB previously. Finally, 2 and 4 GB of RAM are now offers Vs 1 and 2 GB before.
From a graphical point of view, Apple installed in the new iMac the GeForce 9400M chipset by NVIDIA, already used on the MacBook. No surprise here then...
4 USB ports are still on offer, while the FireWire 400 port disappears and is replaced by a single FireWire 800 (due to the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M chipset). Other new feature: a Mini DisplayPort in order to connect the LED Cinema Display and extend one’s desktop.
