Tough
"Tough" is to be understood as: hard-case. Indeed, just as the Olympus Tough-8000 for example (is the name of the range really appropriate?), the Panasonic TS1 (FT1 outside the US) has a body that is waterproof down to 3m underwater (like the Olympus Mju Tough-6000 Vs 10m for the Mju Tough-8000) and shockproof such as falling from a 1.5m-height.

4x zoom
This 12-megapixel camera, ready for action offers a lens with a focal range of 28-128mm, i.e. 4.6x with 4 nonspherical lenses, a glass EA lens and 6 nonspherical surfaces. This periscope-like zoom is stabilized, as the Lumix range has been for a long time.

iA with Face Recognition
The iA mode is of course included in this TS1 with, as icing on the cake for the geek who lies dormant in you: Face Recognition. You register your relatives in your SLR; when they go past your lens, the TS1 recognizes them and automatically focuses on them.

HD video
Like the ZS3 (TZ7) which will undoubtedly be a success, the Panasonic TS1 offers AVCHD recording in 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) and Dolby Digital stereo sound. What more to ask for? Full HD 1080p? Let’s leave some specs to digital camcorders!
