Mobile manufacturers have experienced in the 4th quarter of 2008 a significant decrease in their sales. The current economic context has impacted on the purchases made by particular individuals worldwide, making figures drop by 10% during the last part of 2008, according to the international consultancy firm Strategy Analytics. However, overall in 2008 there has been a growth by 5 points. This analysis is released after the biggest manufacturers of mobile handsets, such as Nokia, Samsung and LG, published their results.

2009, first drop in mobile sales in 8 years
On top of this, Strategy Analytics foresees a difficult year 2009, with a 9%-decrease in sales and a first semester impacted by the global crisis. This scheduled decrease, the first one since 2001, can be explained by the drop in demand after the December celebrations in developed countries, but also by a lesser demand in Asia during the Chinese New Year. The manufacturers are therefore getting ready for the beginning of a recession on the market.
