Sales of smartphones are slowing down

The American IT consulting company Gartner published last Thursday its report on the worldwide sales of smartphone-type mobiles for the 3rd quarter of 2008. Smartphone sales have slowed down throughout the world in this 3rd quarter, with an 11.5%-increase since last year, which is the lowest figure registered until now. All in all, 36.5 millions of smartphones would have been sold throughout the world in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

Despite a decrease in its sales by 3.1%, Nokia remains, and by far, the 1st smartphone manufacturer in the world, with a 42.4% market share. The Finnish maker is followed by the Canadian RIM (BlackBerry), who has reached a growth of 81.7%, and now holds a 15.9% market share Vs 9.7% last year. Ranking 3rd, HTC has been replaced by Apple, who holds a 12.9% market share thanks to the new HSDPA generation of the iPhone.
