Since iView Media has been taken over by the giant of Redmond, Expression Media 2 is the first version of the software released my Microsoft itself. The Service Pack is welcome to fix a few (400 of them !) bugs and improves many sides of Expression Media 2 like geotagging, catalog management, import or RAW support. Here is the list of all improvements :

Hierarchical keywords :

  • Child nodes are removed automatically when the parent node is removed.
  • The interaction between hierarchical keywords and flat list keywords is improved.
  • The drag behavior between a parent node and a child node is improved.

Raw Image support

The Windows version now has a preference that lets the user decide whether Windows Imaging Component (WIC) is used for the raw image. You may find that changing this option improves the color or speeds up the display.

Catalog editing

  • Long paths and long file names are supported when paths are reset.
  • Unexpected duplicates are no longer created.
  • Expression Media 2 now remembers the last used open location.
  • Catalog finder shows the full paths of image files.

Import

  • Large files, such as 16000x8000 images, are now supported in HTML galleries.
  • Rendering performance for the Nikon .nef files is improved.
  • The .arw files display the Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) data.
  • When you right-click an item in Windows Explorer, you find that the media import limit is increased.
  • Issues related to imports from camera disks are fixed.

Geo-tagging and Virtual Earth :

  • Drag-and-drop capabilities are added to the Virtual Earth window.
  • Keywords are displayed when you drag an image to a Virtual Earth window.
  • The user can now edit the GPS annotation field.
  • GPS locations can be sniffed from URLs by using the latitude and longitude information.
  • More latitude and longitude formats are added.
  • Latitude and longitude tags can be added to HTML galleries.

Light table

  • Multi-item drawing issues are fixed.
  • he behavior of the DELETE key has changed.
  • The position of the magnifier pointer is fixed.
  • Keyboard shortcut issues are resolved.
  • The user experience when switching between full-screen and windowed mode is improved.
