What's new in Nikon Capture NX2

Autoretouch brush

Finally the autoretouch brush is part of the new Nikon Capture in its NX2 version. This really is a good thing as you know you will have to use it one day or an other because you just can't count on your sensor cleaning system to have a clean sensor forever ! So, either you clean it yourself very often or edit your images to clean these little dust prints with your favorite software. Nikon's system is 100% automatic and the very good thing is that you can launch the correction tool to clean an entire bunch of images, in bulk. This will be quite time saving.

Quick fix

A new hud is now available under the name of "Quick Fix". This palette is a selection of the most often used tools to improve images like saturation, contrast, highlights, fill light and exposure with NEF (Nikon's RAW format) files. With this Quick Fix Hud, you can be more efficient to improve your images working only with a selection of tools.

New U points

Color Control Points, also named "U Points" are now very well-known. This plugin developed by Nik Software first appeared on the previous version of Nikon Capture NX. Now, this intelligent selection and image improvement tool is available as plugins for Photoshop CS3, Aperture and as a stand alone application. Nikon Capture NX2 is bringing this U Point technology to an other level by allowing the user to use any tool on the area selected by the Color Control Points on the image. So now, you have a total control over your image and the very good point of this is that you are still working on the RAW file itself. This means that both the selection and the changes are editable afterwards ! Isn't that nice ?!

Image browser

Capture NX2 will now offer a descent browser which is the least this kind of software should propose to its users. Now, you can make all types pf searches like on the format (Raw or Jpg ), on the IPTC fields or on the Metadatas. Yet, you will probably need a real images management tool like Expression Media to really organize your professional image bank.
