Yes, 140 grams only for hardly 3 cm thick : Sony has lightweighted all they could with the TG3. knowing that it is full HD (1920 X 1080) and that it offers a technological batch as complete as innovating, the TG3 will be a best seller, no doubt about that. To preserve this lightweight, Sony built it in titanium, which is 40% lighter than steel. The finish is superb with a "Premium Hard Coating" which resists to finger marks and the stripes, according to Sony.

High-tech

The high-tech content of Sony's TG3 is impressive: the full HD 1920 X 1080 image, will be optimized by BIONZ processor as embedded in the latest DSLR like the Sony A350 Alpha. The processor will ensure the video signal processing and a Nikon's D-lighting like contrast correction in order to lighten the dark areas of the image. The processor will also have a lot to do with the face detection mode which also works in video mode. In this mode, the camcorder concentrate the exposure and focus on faces but also the 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound on faces. To get as much detailed faces as possible, the camcorder will even lower the compression ratio on faces !

Photo mode

Sony TG3 also takes pictures with a resolution of 4 Megapixels in photo mode and 2,3 megapixels when you are in Full HD video mode. Storage is made on the Memory Stick PRO Duo card of 4 GB provided with the camcorder. An optional MS of 16 GB allows to store a maximum of 5h55 of full HD video (in lower quality though : LP). The touch screen of the TG3 measures 2,7".

Quick Burn

The TG3 will be delivered with a cradle (Handycam) which makes it possible to reload the batteries, to connect it to a high definition TV with a HDMI cable (not provided) or, and it is very nice, to burn a DVD with the content of the memory card with only one Quick Burn" button.

Price and availability of Sony HDR-TG3

This tiny yet powerful HD camcorder will be available in May 2008. The TG3, with its luxurious coating, titanium frame, lightweight of 140 grams and high tech content wil be launched at a pretty fair price of arounf USD 900.
