Simon, the reviewer of the D60, has noticed a rather good resolution, especially at low ISO settings. The dynamic range is actually wider than it was on the Nikon D40 and D40x. Still on the image quality side, the review has shown that Nikon Active D-Lighting was efficient in lighting up dark areas of the pictures. Although the body is very compact and lightweight, dpreview has been surprised by its built quality. The LCS screen was rated very good with a nice wide angle of view. The 3 fps burst mod with unlimited views has also pleased the reviewer which actually did really like that camera.

Yes, the Nikon D60 is a good camera, no doubt about that but still, there are a few issues which have been pointed out by the website in its D60 review like the fact that the Nikon D60 has no AF drive which means that you will not get any autofocus if you use the D60 with any other lens than an "AF-S" one. RAW+JPG usually comes handy but here, the JPG quality can not be set to anything else than the "basic" quality which is not fine enough to our taste, nor to dpreview's taste. The review has also shown that default settings were too soft and an extra pop would have been nice. If high ISO settings give pretty good results, dpreview has found that the Nikon D60 was not as good as the "best in class" like Canon's for instance. Finally, dpreview regrets the lack of DOF checker button which is always a very useful addition to a body and the bad accuracy of the white balance under artificial light.

Finally, dpreview has appreciated the overall qualities of the Nikon D60
better than it regrets the very few issues the review has pointed out. Therefore,
the Nikon D60 has been rated "highly recommended", the highest and very
distinctive rating of dpreview. You may read the full review of the Nikon D60
