According to the Financial Times, Apple signed an agreement with the 20th Century Fox allowing iTunes users to enjoy a new VOD (Video On Demand) service based on renting a movies for a limited period of time. In concrete terms the agreement between the two companies will allow Apple to offer downloadable versions of the latest 20th Century Fox's DVD releases that will be viewable for a limited period. According to the American daily paper this offer could change the film distribution.

More permissive DRM for contents in renting on iTunes

A change in digital rights management will also happen on iTunes. The content will be now usable on other systems than Apple iPods. With the FairPlay DRM present in the new offer it will be possible to transfer files from a computer to another or to convert them in other formats, specialy the iPod touch format.

Agreement announced during Macworld
|
|
Still according to the Financial Times, Apple would be in negociation with Sony pictures Entertainment, Paramount and Warner Bross. The official announcement should happen on January 14th during the Macworld 2008. That may boost even more the Apple share that has just reached the 200 USD.
