Pokémon Go on iOS and Android now !
Developed by Niantic, the long awaited Pokémon Go is now available for both iOS and Android smartphones in serveral countries such as Australia, New Zealand and US. A surprise for lots of Pokémon fans around the world, pretty happy to finally download this new augmented reality game based on the famous Nintendo franchise. Even though the game was expected to be available in July, no precise date had ever been mentionned in the past.
Pokémon Go is a brand new game in the franchise, which uses camera and GPS hardware to create an augmented reality world in which players will have to capture, collect, trade and of course battle several Pokémon. The aim for the player is to travel around the real world, until the smartphone vibrates, a sign for the presence of a Pokémon nearby, that can be captured directetly through the smartphone. Location is of course one of the game’s mechanics, with some Pokémon that can only be captured near water or moutains. Note that an optionnal device, Go Plus, is also available, in order to keep users in the game without access to their phone, thanks to Bluetooth connection and LED that alerts the player in case of a Pokémon spotted nearby.
According to Niantic : “Pokémon are out there, and you need to find them. As you walk around a neighborhood, your smartphone will vibrate when there’s a Pokémon nearby. Take aim and throw a Poké Ball… You’ll have to stay alert, or it might get away !” Note that even if the app is designed for both iPhone and iPad according to the AppStore’s description, game developper Niantic precises that the app is “optimized” for smartphones, and not tablets.
