Nikon L110 : budget friendly bridge camera

In spite of its "L" series aspect like a fairly low price tag, the Nikon Coolpix L110 remains pretty high end in some aspects like :
- its 15x zoom lens equivalent to 28-420mm
- its CCD-shift image stabilization
- its 3" and 460 000 pixels
- its nice glossy red or black finish
- its HD 720p video recording capabilities
- its HDMI output

Nikon L110 : 4xAA batteries, costly both for your pocket and mother nature

The Nikon Coolpix L110, as many entry level cameras, works on 4 AA batteries. This lowers the price tag first when you buy your camera but you must be aware of the extra cost of buying either AA alcaline batteries many times a year or a full set of recharchable batteries with their charger. At the end, the bargain is not so interesting. Worse, using alcaline batteries means loosing a huge lot of chemicals in the nature, even if you return them in a recycle tank as we find in Best Buy stores and Cie.... Yet, Nikon did a great job improving the battery life of the L110 in spite of its 3" and 460 000 pixels as, according to Nikon, with 4 new batteries, the L110 should be able to record up to 840 images or 7 hours of video.

Nikon Coolpix L110 main technical specifications

- 12 megapixels
- 15x optical zoom lens (28-420mm)
- 1cm macro mode
- 80 to 6400 ISO
- CCD-shift image stabilization + eVR + motion detection
- Face priority AF
- Auto scene mode (among 14)
- HD 720p video recording with stereo sound
- HDMI output
- works with 4xAA batteries
- Battery life : 840 still images or 7 hours of video
- 406 grams

Nikon Coolpix L21 and L22 : low prices, low specs

In addition to this bridge camera, Nikon's L-series is now richer of the very basic Coolpix L22 and L21. Yes, they are cheap. Yet, their wide-angle focal length belongs to the past, even for a budget camera. Here are their specs :

- Résolution :
     - L21 : 8 megapixels
     - L22 : 12 megapixels
- Zoom lens :
     - L21 : 41-145mm
     - L22 : 37-134mm
- Screen :
     - L21 : 2,5" / 230 000 pixels
     - L22 : 3" / 230 000 pixels
- 16 scene modes
- Advanced portrait mode : face detection /smile detection / closed eye alert / red eye correction
- 2 x AA batteries
