Nikon Coolpix S8000 : 10x optical zoom

Not only the S8000 is a speed racing camera according to Nikon, it is also extremely thin (21.7mm) regarding the fact that it embeds a 10x zoom lens (30-300mm) which is a world record. Nikon states in its press release that the Coolpix S8000 is the thinest camera with a 10x zoom ever. If we appreciate the wide zoom range of the S8000 (for whose lens Nikon uses 2 ED glass lenses), we would rather have a shorter focal length on the wide-angle side of it.... just like we find on the Sony
HX5 which is a 10x and 25-250mm or on the Panasonic SZ7 / TZ10 offering a 12x / 25-300mm...but both are also more expensive than the Nikon S8000.) But this lack of "wide angle ambition" will mean better optical quality. ED glass should help anyway.
