Nikon P100 : 26x Nikkor lens with ED glass element

The masterpiece of a so called bridge camera is undoubtly its powerful lens and the Coolpix P100 makes no exception to the rule featuring a 26x range giving the equivalent to a 26-676mm ! In the race to the widest focal length range, Olympus won the 2010 edition with the SP-800UZ announced yesterday, which feature an incredibly versatile 28-840mm. Yet, the Nikon P100 goes further down on the short focal length for a more wide-angle position. To accomplish such an optical piece, Nikon's engineered have used no less than 3 ED glass lenses which is always meaning image quality.

Coolpix P100 : backlit CMOS sensor

As many new cameras this year, the Nikon Coolpix P100 offers a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, in a 10 megapixels resolution (see the new Ricoh CX3 just announced as well). This sensor offers better sensitivity up to ISO 6400 and better results in high ISO settings. It also enables the camera to feature quick capture at 10 fps in full resolution on the P100 which also allows a new function, the HDR mode. The HDR mode takes 2 shots at 2 exposures and blends them to tend to give a better exposed image.

Full HD video recording on the NikonP100

Yes, the Nikon P100 offers high definition video recording and as the camera tends to be as versatile as possible and to offer the best features a bridge camera can offer, it records Full HD 1080p video sequences at 30 fps with stereo sound. The codec used for compression is H.264 and the P100 is equiped with HDMI output.
